THE EVIL TOUCH

The Cambridge University Press defines “evil” as the condition of being immoral, cruel, or bad. The presence of evil is everywhere and chooses a wide range of forms to make others aware of its presence.

Take for instance an incident that took place several years ago I was teaching at a school in a small African village. My cousin and his family also lived in the village.

One day his four-year-old son went out to play and came home with the sign of an evil touch upon his body. I could hear the boy’s mother weeping and wailing from my own house, and rushed over to learn the reason. Upon arriving I saw the boy running around, but his mother was beside herself.

“Look at my son,” she said to me. “He went out into the village to play with his friends, but by the time he came back someone had touched his head because part of his hair is missing and being a little boy he couldn’t tell me who cut his hair.”

I knew the implication to which she referred. In a hostile environment such as areas near that small African village, your hair in the hands of wicked people was a potential death sentence. What do you think happened to this four-year-old boy? Within days he died under mysterious conditions.

More recently a man in his fifties related a shocking tale to me. While relaxing in his home one afternoon, he suddenly felt a touch at the corner of his right eye. Despite the reality of the pressure upon his skin, when he reached out to grab the offender nothing was there. The touch eventually left him but not without leaving proof of its existence.

As the man sat before me I saw firsthand the bruise from the touch on his right eye. A week after the odd experience, he explained, his head began swelling until it was double its normal size. His search for a cure knew no boundaries as he visited both medical and herbal doctors. These professionals performed scans, x-rays, and MRIs but the tests detected nothing.

The man’s search for a cure rendered him penniless. After some time passed, without any kind of warning, the size of his head returned to normal size. Then quite unexpectedly the man lost vision in both eyes. The loss of vision was his reason for coming to see me. This man had been touched by the hand of evil!

The accounts related here are just two of the many that I know about, and they serve as an illustration to the other factual incidents that you are about to read in the next few pages.

The touch of evil is real!

The life of a four-year-old was cut short within days of an evil touch. This same touch caused a man in his fifties to lose his sight within a short time. The touch of evil is a very real phenomenon that has altered the course of many lives.

Right now, I want you to pause and pray the following prayer points: O Lord, remove the effect of every evil touch from my life right now, in the name of Jesus.

O Lord, travel back to the beginning of my life. From then till today, let the blood of Jesus erase every evil touch from my life.

The subject material in this book is very important. The touch of evil has altered and tampered with the destinies of many.

Those who ought to be very wealthy have been rendered poverty-stricken because of the evil touch. Brilliant students seem to have lost their intellect and become dull because of the evil touch. Happy, carefree homes have become boxing and wrestling arenas, virtual hotbeds of physical abuse, because of the evil touch. Countless numbers of seemingly harmless handshakes have resulted in perpetual problems because they were tainted with evil.

Warding Away Evil with Prayer

A few years ago I went somewhere with a brother who assists me in the ministry. Upon our arrival I asked my assistant to wait for me in the reception area, and I went in to see the person with whom I had business. While he waited for me to return, an incident took place which he later narrated to me.

As my assistant waited, another man sitting in the reception area approached him and stretched out his hand in greeting. Naturally my assistant responded in kind and, without knowing that the hand stretched out to him was touched with evil, reached out his own palm for a handshake. The moment their palms touched the other man quickly withdrew his hand and stepped away from the brother. The man made a second attempt at a handshake with the same results.

“Sir, are you a Christian?” The man asked my assistant, who replied that yes, he absolutely is a follower of Christ. Then he asked the man why he wished to know.

“Because,” the man replied, “I feel something in your hand that is more than ordinary.” What the man felt was the fire of the Holy Ghost. Although the man’s goal was to deposit evil into the life of my assistant, he was prevented from doing so. Praise God!

It is a dangerous world out there! If a random stranger can try to deposit evil in the hand of a Christian sitting in a reception area within the United States, then evil can take place anywhere.

Say these two prayer points as we continue:

Every evil deposit in my hand, be destroyed by fire.

You, power of evil touch working against my life, become powerless in the name of Jesus.

The evil touch is not limited to contact via handshake. Can you imagine an evil hug?

Recently the father of one of the African brothers in my church died. Before the brother left to attend the funeral in Africa, he fervently prayed that the funeral ceremony would go off without a hitch. He had to pray these precautionary prayers because his father’s death was caused by household wickedness. Due to the fact that he was the first child, household enemies were out to destroy him so they can keep him from inheriting his father’s estate.

While praying, the Lord warned him to be wary of his uncle during the funeral. The Lord told this brother that the uncle would treat him with extra kindness and that on first sight the uncle would do everything within his power to hug him. The Lord then warned him not to accept any hugs from this uncle because it would be an evil hug.

When he arrived home in Africa things turned out exactly the way God predicted. In spite of many attempts that his uncle made to hug him, this brother was able to avoid that form of physical contact and returned to the United States safe and sound.

There are three ceremonies where the incidence of the evil touch attack is generally the most prevalent. I do not know why it happens this way, but it is probably no coincidence that all three are times when a lot of family and friends draw near to one another. The first is during funeral ceremonies. The second is during child naming ceremonies. And finally, the third is during marriage ceremonies.

The African and Caribbean culture make these types of evil touches very easy to execute. Take for example an African marriage ceremony performed in the traditional manner. During these so-called traditional ceremonies, many unsuspecting couples have found themselves the victims of an evil touch.

Some parts of Africa require the couple to kneel down during traditional ceremonies so that the elders of their families can lay hands on them and pray for their well-being. These are not Christian prayers as many of the family members who are laying hands have no knowledge of the God of Heaven. One person wearing a magical ring on their finger can lay hands on the bride and bridegroom and unknown to them curse them with a struggle that will last through their entire marriage.

It is a common experience among newlyweds for couples to stand and receive warm handshakes from well wishers after the ceremony. It is not uncommon for wicked people to take advantage of this tradition and use it to bring strife to the lives of many newlywed couples.

The Evil Touch on Objects

Someone recently informed me that depending on the spiritual atmosphere of the ceremony, some African newlyweds now leave it to others to open their gifts in case the giver has tainted the package with an evil touch. On the day of one bride’s wedding, she opened a gift to find demonic cowries inside. Another person received feathers that were wrapped up and dropped into the package. Someone else received boiled eggs in her wedding package while another was shocked to find a live turtle in her own wedding package. The evil touch is so prevalent that it can reach the couple even before they open the gift. Gone are the days when newlyweds get married and open their own gifts.

Among the other deliverance stories I wrote about in my other book, DELIVER US FROM EVIL, I recounted an incident that took place during a mass deliverance service that I held in Atlanta, Georgia. A young lady who was touched by the Lord had extremely violent manifestations. I along with others took her into a back room and prayed over her for a long while.

During this prayer session the spirit manifested and spoke with a masculine voice. “Give me my ring back,” it kept repeating. We prayed for her until God delivered her from the evil touch, and what we learned was a real eye-opener.

The young lady was married to a gentleman, but his sister opposed their union. The sister wanted the brother to remain single, and took every effort to stop the marriage until she finally resorted to using the medium of an evil touch. Her way of accomplishing this was a witchcraft classic. The man’s sister knew that her brother’s young bride loved African-style dresses, so she sewed an African dress for her new sister-in-law.

But this was no ordinary dress. The woman put a hex on the dress so that the moment the young lady touched it, the feelings of love she had for her husband would evaporate like fog rising into the sky.

This innocent girl! She received the package containing the dress in the mail and, thinking it was a reconciliation gift from her sister-in-law, happily opened it. What she thought was meant for reconciliation was actually meant for destruction! Unfortunately when she opened the package, touched the dress and then tried it on, the damage was done. She and her husband bickered from that day forward, never seeing eye-to-eye and enduring one trouble or commotion after another.

An evil touch

Unfortunately this story contains another disturbing twist. Because the dress was too small for the young woman, out of the goodness of her heart she gave it to a colleague who gladly accepted it. Little did this woman know, the gift she received was more than just a free dress, but when this woman touched and wore the dress the hex passed on to her and her marriage also collapsed!

If your marriage is cursed by some form of evil, then I pray that God will set you free from whatever the devil is doing to destroy your marriage. Although a gift might seem innocent, when tainted by an evil touch it can turn out to be quite deadly. The best way to counter this kind of evil touch is to know your environment and act accordingly.

Every evil touch does one of two things to your life. It either robs your life of something good, or it curses it with the deposit of something evil. The presence of evil always tries to do one of those two things, which will be explained in more detail later within this book.

Pray these prayers: Every good thing taken out of my life by any evil touch be replaced now in the name of Jesus.

Every evil deposit in my life as a result of an evil touch, be dried up by fire.

Am I saying that all gifts are cursed with a hex? Am I saying that every handshake is evil? Am I saying every hug will rob you of something good or deposit something evil into your life? That would be a ridiculous conclusion to make. I am merely making you aware of the risk so that you might study your environment and take the appropriate precautionary measures to protect yourself.

Let me give you a couple of prayer points for your hands.

Say: Every evil touch that will want to shake my hand; be paralyzed by fire! Now take the next prayer point looking at your hands. Say: My hand, refuse to be affected by any evil touch, in the name of Jesus.

Finally I want you to do what Paul the Apostle did to his hand after the snake fastened on it.

Say: Every evil fastened to my hand, I shake you off into the fire of God.

You may be wondering, why is he so particular about my hands? The reason is simply that almost every blessing that comes into your life comes through your hands. If evil, which is the enemy, can succeed at putting a hex on your hands then it will be difficult for you to both receive and retain blessings.

A couple of years ago I attended a revival meeting. During that time period in my life I was having serious financial struggles. The minister called me out and asked if anyone saw the iron gloves on my hands. Of course, no one did! My hands were spiritually bewitched! The minister explained that it is impossible to hold anything in a hand with iron gloves on, and rightly surmised that I must be experiencing serious financial difficulties.

Now, I want you to pray this prayer, even if you feel that you don’t need it. Go ahead and pray it anyway because prayers like this will not hurt anyone.

Every iron glove keeping me from receiving and retaining money, be destroyed by fire.

Earlier I wrote that, depending on whether your environment is friendly or unfriendly, there are three specific times you need to be on the lookout for the evil touch. These three times are during funeral ceremonies, child naming ceremonies, and marriage ceremonies.

Evil Attacks in Dreams

A lady once came to me in order to relate a bizarre experience she went through following the naming ceremony of her youngest child. Somehow during the ceremony, one of the less friendly guests in attendance touched her with an evil hand. It was the middle of the night before she realized what had transpired during the ceremony.

In what she assumed to be a dream, someone attempted to touch her with a syringe that contained poisonous liquid. In the “dream” although she attempted to run away the individual pursued her, chasing her all about the small room. Without much space to run away, she jumped out of the window.

It was only after she landed on the concrete surface below her bedroom window that she realized it was not a dream at all. She had actually jumped from her upstairs bedroom, although the “person” chasing her was nowhere to be found. What a demonic manipulation! Although she broke her jaw, cut her tongue badly, and lay unconscious in the hospital for months, God had mercy on her and delivered her.

Example of Job

Now I will show you several things about the evil touch from the Biblical book of Job.

Job 1:1-12

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.

3 His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

4 And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus did Job continually.

6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them.

7 And the Lord said unto Satan, “Whence comest thou?” Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, “From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

8 And the Lord said unto Satan, “Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?”

9 Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, “Doth Job fear God for nought?

10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.”

12 And the Lord said unto Satan, “Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand.” So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.

Job 2:1-10

Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord.

2 And the Lord said unto Satan, “From whence comest thou?” And Satan answered the Lord, and said, “From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

3 And the Lord said unto Satan, “Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.”

4 And Satan answered the Lord, and said, “Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

5 But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.”

6 And the Lord said unto Satan, “Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.” 7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

9 Then said his wife unto him, “Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.”

10 But he said unto her, “Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this, did not Job sin with his lips?

Perhaps no other story in the Bible than that of Job perfectly illustrates the evil touch. Job was a man who was holy, pure, and righteous. He feared God with his entire house and hated evil.

Many try to teach that once you are holy, you have no reason to worry about Satan. These are the same who wonder why we preach about spiritual warfare with such a high level of passion. It is a mistake to think that once you are saved the devil and his wicked forces will not bother you. Job was a holy man, and yet look at what the enemy did to him.

Apostle Paul, another holy man, once said, “Satan hindered us.” When Jesus was giving the disciples the Lord’s Prayer, which is the ultimate model of prayer, He as much as said to worry about the devil when He said, “Deliver us from the evil one.”

Teaching that the enemy is not a force to be reckoned with is a grave mistake. What the enemy did to Job should be enough to convince anyone about the lengths the devil is willing to go to in order to perpetrate wickedness.

What did the devil do to Job? He touched him, and as a result of that touch, Job lost everything that he had. The devil further touched his body and Job lost his health.

The Truths about Evil Touch

Truth 1 – Satan is Behind Every Evil Touch

The first thought I’d like to draw your attention to is that Satan is the brain behind every evil touch. Did you notice that Satan tried to make God touch Job? He said, “But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.”

God is not evil. God doesn’t do evil things. And most importantly, God cannot be tempted with evil. When God has a child that is living right, He does not put evil in his or her life. Some tell us that God can make us sick to teach us a lesson. That is not true! A good Father will not send a good son to the prison to teach him a lesson!

Satan is the brainchild behind every evil in our lives, regardless of its size or effectiveness. Of course, Satan might use human agents, but we know that the devil himself is the one behind every incident of evil touch.

In this case, we saw the force of the wind that blew against everything Job had. We also saw some thieves who came and plundered all of Job’s possessions. We saw boils appear all over Job’s body. But we know by reading the scripture that Satan was behind every last one of these malicious acts. What happened to Job serves as proof that every evil that you experience in your life is the handwork of Satan.

Truth 2 – Evil Does Not Discriminate

The second thought that I’d like to draw your attention to is that evil does not discriminate in regards to who it touches. If Satan is allowed to do so, he will do his best to touch the righteous as well as the unrighteous.

Satan was the one who, for eighteen years, bound up the woman described by Jesus as the daughter of Abraham. Satan was the one who so hated Israel that he moved David, their leader, to number Israel thus causing trouble for the nation. Satan was the one that so hated Peter, that he desired to sift him like wheat.

As a matter of fact, if you are a born-again Christian and you have a relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ, then you are an arch enemy to the devil. Before accepting Christ into your heart, you worked in Satan’s army. And now you are enlisted in the army of the Lord, what reason does Satan have to love you?

Satan hates everything about us. The peace, joy, health and wealth we now have drive him crazy! He will do everything within his power to steal, to kill, and to destroy whatever he can that we have, and the fact that he might not succeed does not deter him one bit from trying. That is the truth!

Truth 3 – Evil Loves to Touch Two Things

The third thought that I would like to draw your attention to are the two things that Satan loves to touch. Look again at verse 11 in the first chapter of Job:

“But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.”

The wicked one wanted “all that he hath” touched. That is a serious thought. In Job’s case, the enemy touched his sons, his daughters, his oxen, asses, sheep, and camels. Everything that brought Job joy, everything that brought him self-esteem, everything that brought income into his family, experienced an evil touch at the hand of the wicked one.

It is important that you always pray a covering over everything God has blessed you with. This includes your spouse, children, house, dog, cat, automobile, motorcycle, and even the banana tree and the chicken roaming about in your backyard.

Say out loud the following decree:

In the name of Jesus my sons shall be untouchable to the devil, my daughters shall be untouchable to the devil, my oxen shall be untouchable to the devil, my asses shall be untouchable to the devil, my sheep shall be untouchable to the devil, and my camels shall be untouchable to the devil. All my possessions shall be untouchable to the devil, in the name of Jesus. Whatever the enemy has touched or the enemy is touching right now must become too hot for him to handle in the name of Jesus. I decree in the name of Jesus that all that I have become untouchable to the devil.
